The Oregon School Personnel Association Human Resources Leadership Award is given to an active member of OSPA who has distinguished him/herself in personnel administration; is involved and a contributing participant in personnel functions and/or programs; whose contributions have had a significant impact on public education; is a skilled manager of change and is creative in his/her approach to personnel administration; approaches personnel administrative work with a sense of humor and sense of respect for his/her fellow persons.

Jerry Copeland, Director of InterMountain Education Service District (IMESD) was nominated by several colleagues with overwhelmingly positive support.

Since 1986, Jerry has served in a wide range of education leadership positions as a teacher and administrator in addition to extensive community and statewide board service.   Highlights from his nomination include, “He leads by example.”  “His approach to learning is contagious!”  “He is always looking for ways to improve himself so he can improve others.” “Jerry is going to leave a legacy behind. He represents everyone here!! I wish he would never retire!! When he leaves he will leave us in such a better place. I am so thankful that our superintendent saw him and brought him to us!! There could not be anyone better than Jerry for what he has done for this organization!”

OSPA is delighted to recognize Jerry for his exceptional leadership and service.  He represents OSPA’s mission in action – keeping the best people in front of Oregon’s students.

The Human Resources Specialist/Support Staff Professional of the Year Award is given to an individual whose contributions have had significant impact on the efficiency of the human resources office and to the field of human resources; who has distinguished him/herself through leadership service; and is a collaborative contributing participant in personnel function and/or programs.

Tracy Ollivant, HR Assistant in South Lane School District, has been in the HR field for 20 years since graduating from Southern Oregon University in 1996. She has been the HR Specialist for South Lane SD for the past eight years, and worked 13 years prior in the private sector as a HR Generalist in the medical field.

Highlights from Tracy's nomination demonstrate OSPA's mission in action - keeping the best people in front of Oregon's students.  "Her empathy and compassion are second to none - everyone knows she cares."  "We couldn't do a lot of the things we do without her - she is also an integral part of our community as a parent volunteer in our schools. Whenever there is a major school event, Tracy can be counted on to be there."

Tracy also is committed to continuous professional development "always the learner - always looking to grow," having completed her Oregon Professional Human Capital Leaders in Education course last summer.  

It is a privilege for OSPA to recognize Tracy for her outstanding contributions to the field of human resources.
